JMT Speaks - with Haley

With permission from Jennifer Thibodaux

Hi All,

This week on the podcast we welcome lawyer, entrepreneur, speaker, writer, storyteller, wife, mother, and barre enthusiast - Jennifer Thibodaux. Jenn is a Seton Hall University School of Law graduate who practiced commercial litigation until she made a significant pivot into a career in legal publishing. Along with her full time career, she also founded JMT Speaks, where she uses the power of storytelling to inspire professionals.

Before you read on you should head to her website right now and sign up for her weekly newsletter. If you missed it, here’s the link again - click me! As a subscriber myself I can attest to the wealth of knowledge she shares with her readers, as well as inspirational stories, good reads, and down right fun recommendations.

Jenn shares that her journey to JMT Speaks newsletter really began with her column - On Marino’s Mind - in her high school newsletter. Talk about something coming full circle. At the same time that she was writing her high school column, she also developed a passion for the law and a drive that would take her to a junior partnership and then eventually back to her newsletter.

As we spoke, Jenn shared that one thing that really helped her make the leap was the realization that just because she was good at something - litigation - that does not mean that she has to keep doing it. Just let that sink in for a moment. Think about yourself. What are you good at? You do NOT have to keep doing it if that is no longer serving you at this point in your life. This shift allowed Jenn to live into her authentic self.

Authenticity is something that Jenn speaks about quite a bit. I was lucky to get a taste of this from her during this episode. She talked about how authenticity not just learning who you are, but also who you are not. She also explained the value that vulnerability plays in the journey to finding your authentic self.

Finally, Jenn had a chance to “say it out loud.” For her response, take a listen to the episode. It really exemplified how she is living into her authentic self and is an inspiration to us all.

Keep up with JMT Speaks, sign up for the newsletter, and follow her on Linkedin and Instagram @jmtspeaks.
