Mindfulness

Hi All,

In this episode we delve into mindfulness. Simply put mindfulness is a mental state that helps you become more aware of the things going on around you while accepting the things you cannot change and acknowledging the path you want to take. Mindfulness can take make different shapes and certainly looks different for different people. Mindfulness in your life may manifest itself in different ways depending on what you are looking to focus on at that moment.

Mediation is often something that goes hand in hand with mindfulness. Meditation can also take so many forms and is not simply about clearing your mind. Haley talks about her journey with meditation in this episode. She acknowledges that, like so many of us, a practice of meditation where the goal is to CLEAR her mind simply is not practical or interesting to her. She uses meditation in short snippets to help her focus her thoughts, let them pass through her, and organize them for the task ahead. If you feel your mind racing or you feel your thoughts are disorganized we encourage you to try some different meditations - there are so many free apps that you can try. See if you find something that serves you.

Mindfulness is not just meditation. It can come in so many forms. It can be as simple as making a to do list for the day. Intentionally thinking about the tasks ahead of you and prioritizing them is an accessible mindfulness practice.

Think about the positive things you do to manage your day - you will likely find elements of mindfulness. Try and apply those principles to other areas where you feel more out of control. Let us know what is working for you!
